The Eli Home’s “100 Chances” Youth/Business Mentorship Program Receives Full Support of Anaheim City Council

On March 17th, the city of Anaheim voted to formally support The Eli Home’s “100 Chances” youth/business mentorship program. One Hundred Chances mentorship program will provide internships for one hundred Anaheim at-risk youth per year, with local business owners or executives and is designed to give these youth a chance to succeed through employment opportunities. The City Council expressed its commitment to supporting the establishment of the One Hundred Chances program and assisting in acquiring grant resources. In addition, the council urged support of the program from Accelerate Change Together (ACT) Anaheim, as the program will directly serve the young adults ACT was founded to help. Council support was spearheaded by council member Kris Murray, and voted for by Mayor Pro Tem Lucille Kring, as well as Council Members Brandman and Vanderbilt. According to the City Council’s formal letter of support, “100 Chances will help foster new opportunities for the lives of at-risk Anaheim youth and foster a culture of positivity and achievement in the City”.

One Hundred Chances will provide essential tools for education and employment to youth ages 13 through 19, a group that is particularly underserved in Anaheim as outlined in the 2012 Anaheim Youth Services Assessment Report. The program will be implemented and managed by the Eli Home’s East Street Community Renewal Initiative (ESCRI) in collaboration with Anaheim businesses. The Eli Home is an organization that aims to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect by providing such victims with the support to reenter the community to lead stable, non-violent lives. In its 32-year history, The Eli Home has repeatedly demonstrated a deep commitment to the local community and has been locally and nationally recognized for its leadership in the field of child abuse and family violence prevention.
